What is MEDC?

Heart-to-Heart empowers people on all walks of life to build fruitful lives and relationships with others. Our work builds on Dr. Marshall Rosenberg’s Nonviolent Communication and other sources. Strongly influenced by Gandhi, Dr. Rosenberg’s approach offers a powerful framework for understanding ourselves, empathizing with other people, and communicating in a way that acknowledges and cares about everyone’s needs. It emphasizes being mindful of our thoughts and feelings, and connecting with others in an empathetic manner. By understanding our own needs and the needs of others, we can work to create win-win-win solutions to difficult problems that benefit all parties involved.

Heart-to-Heart focuses on four core skills:   Mindfulness, Empathy, Decision-Making, and Conflict Resolution (MEDC).

  • Mindfulness: Encourages learners to live more fully in the present moment.
  • Empathy: Helps learners connect with others – and themselves – with compassion.
  • Decision-Making: Helps learners take their own needs and those of others into account when making choices.
  • Conflict Transformation: Helps learners find win-win-win solutions to seemingly intractable struggles.
